When you’re at the leader of a large organization, significant corporate changes can be challenging. After all, each change you implement can impact the entire entity; these decisions are never taken lightly.
Reconstructing your company’s massive data is one such large-scale decision. It’s also a major concern for growing companies that are constantly searching for better ways to control and manage their exponentially growing stores of data.
The high-pressure stakes inherent with IT decisions can be very worthwhile ventures when carefully planned and executed paying long-term dividends towards company sustainability. Look no further than the Carlisle Construction Companies as a shining example of these decisions paying off across the board.
Carlisle Construction Materials is a diversified manufacturer and leading supplier of premium building products. Carlisle companies include Carlisle SynTec, Hardcast, Hunter Panels, Insulfoam, Premier Building Systems, Versico, and WeatherBond, among others. With companies like these, Carlisle meets the demands of two all-encompassing markets: residential and commercial.
To manage the multitude of product lines and services, Carlisle utilizes SAP. But, with the rising volume of data and declining speed of the current systems, Carlisle decided it was time for change.
After much internal and external considerations, Carlisle Construction decided to test out the environment in a SAP HANA Proof of Concept Lab, which allowed for tangible performance metrics and data management insight. An SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse upgrade and BOBJ (Business Object) install were also included.
The Business Warehouse upgrade meant that Carlisle’s entire system would be faster, delivering a better return on investment. The BOBJ install would also allow for better overall reporting and detailed analytics beyond anything the company had ever seen.
During the Business Warehouse install, our team at Symmetry discovered that much of the data could—and should—be cleaned up. After this additional step of analyzing and consolidating the database, both the Business Warehouse and BOBJ were successfully installed.
The fruit of these efforts: better visibility into dashboards and reporting, better real-time analytics, and enhanced operations across the entire organization. The end product became six times faster than the previous system.
Change can be a good thing. Through the company’s commitment to clean data, Carlisle has experienced a financial return on its investment through being able to better reduce waste and provide real-time data to key stakeholders. But arguably just as important, company leadership now has the peace of mind to know key company data is secure.
