s/4hana cloud

Most Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) migrating SAP offsite will end up on S/4HANA eventually. The question is, what SAP HANA migration path is right for you? Companies need to choose whether to simply move their current SAP deployment to the cloud, go directly to S/4HANA in the cloud, or take the intermediate path with Suite on HANA.”

SAP HANA Cloud Migration For SMEs: The Three Paths

  1. Traditional SAP Migration: In a traditional migration, the customer migrates their on-premise SAP deployment to the cloud, without undergoing an SAP HANA migration. SMEs can move SAP Business All-in-One, ECC, CRM and other SAP applications to the cloud, along with non-SAP workloads. The main advantages of an on-premise to cloud migration are financial. Customers will trade the unpredictable CapEx of running and servicing an on-premise SAP landscape, for the stable, predictable OpEx model of an SAP cloud deployment. This will simplify budgeting, and significantly lower TCO. For SMEs that don’t currently need HANA functionality or are change-averse, this can be a great way to get into the cloud, and demonstrate ROI for future transformations.
  2. SAP HANA Migration: This option combines an SAP cloud migration with an SAP HANA database migration. To prepare your SAP solution to run Suite on HANA, your provider will usually need to upgrade the SAP release version, and apply various other upgrades and patches. In a legacy landscape, your provider may have to perform a Unicode conversion, eliminate custom code, or perform other changes. An experienced provider will use careful scheduling, and tools like SAP DMO to accelerate the process while minimizing business disruption. The benefits of SAP HANA cloud migration are substantial. In addition to the cost benefits of cloud migration, the tenant will gain significant system performance improvements, and be well-positioned to move to the SAP S/4HANA cloud. Modernizing the system will also provide access to new tools such as real-time analytics, and improved UI through SAP Fiori and/or Screen Personas.
  3. SAP S/4HANA Cloud Migration: In this process, the client undergoes a full S/4HANA transformation. SAP S/4HANA has been reengineered from the ground up to harness HANA technology, providing benefits like better data compression and performance, real-time data analysis, and the ability to answer complex, arbitrary queries — in addition to the benefits above. Innovative application-specific functionality can provide a decisive edge for startups, and SMEs in competitive or cutting-edge industries.Getting to SAP S/4HANA cloud does require additional transformation processes, particularly for companies with legacy systems or extremely complex landscapes. However, in many cases, moving straight to S/4HANA is the more strategic and cost effective option overall.
