cs_symmetry-300x112The Charmer Sunbelt Group’s Virtualization Project Must-Knows: Before and After Deployment Step-by-Step Guide

SAP virtualization allows for maximum infrastructure utilization while reducing the costs associated with maintaining SAP infrastructure and increasing business flexibility. Thus, virtualizing can significantly improve your operating systems and applications. Some of the benefits of virtualization include: maximizing hardware utilization, decreasing data center footprints, reducing energy consumption, enhancing replication and backup features, and reducing disaster recovery costs with a virtualized disaster recovery environment.

However, there’s a flip side to these benefits. Streamlining your infrastructure generally requires a complex road prior to and even after deployment, from decision making to implementation to steady state operations.

We want to address some of the frustrations which accompany virtualization. I’m giving a joint presentation with the Charmer Sunbelt Group’s SAP Technical Architect Robert Valentin. Together, we’ll be explaining the company’s motivation to switch from a traditional SAP landscape to a virtualized SAP landscape. One motivator, for example, was that the company’s servers were scratching the limit of resource provisions approved by VMWare. We’ll go into more detail during our presentation.

Valentin will also explain during our presentation the necessary project steps—and the lessons learned along the way, lessons like ECC Production requirements such as CPU and Memory, necessary certifications, technical limitation such as horsepower, SAP architecture decisions such as the number of app servers and user provisioning, and the actually project in itself: a physical to virtual migration.

If you’re at all considering making the switch, you need to attend our presentation. You’ll come away from the hour with an understanding of the benefits and business motivation for virtualization. You’ll have learned project considerations, “gotchas,” and key decisions to evaluate before migrating your systems and applications. You’ll realize what’s involved after deployment, how to live with your new ecosystem, necessary on-going support, and future planning considerations, especially for disaster recovery.
