SAP Fiori is a new user interface or user experience (UX) that supplements the SAP GUI. It is a streamlined application that uses tiles to encapsulate standard tasks, such as approving purchase requisitions, viewing sales orders, and approving timesheets.

There’s a night and day difference between the SAP GUI and SAP Fiori UX. While the older GUI was bulky and hard to learn or train, Fiori is built in HTML5 and has the seamless movements and controls you would expect out of any mobile application. The screens are simple and clean looking, and there are none of the unnecessary tabs and fields which the previous UX had.

Because it is designed to make common tasks easier, SAP Fiori UX can significantly boost productivity. In one recent side-by-side test of a common receivables management task, Fiori cut duration by 64% — from 2:12 to 47 seconds. It also cut clicks (71%) screen changes (75%) and filled fields (60%), which shows how much it simplifies tasks.

Because it’s simpler, Fiori is also easier to learn. This boosts adoption rate, cuts training time, decreases employee frustration and makes it easier to move workers around, or strategically adopt new processes. However, it’s even more impressive coupled with SAP HANA.

Fiori is capable of running on other SAP systems, but is more powerful on SAP HANA. With a traditional database, customers are limited to transactional applications, but with SAP HANA, you get the transactional, factsheet, and analytic applications, harnessing the power of the in-memory database to deliver real time data.
